Heartbreaker

March 11TH, 2014

Morristown only had one shot on goal in the third period of the State Championship game at the Prudential Center. That shot came with 33.8 seconds left in the game. That shot would be the only one Morristown needed to capture the Championship by defeating the Rams 1-0. After a strong first period by Morristown where the Colonials mustered several quality scoring chances only to be denied by the stellar play of Rams goaltender Tyler Harmon, the Rams returned to form and dominated the action in the second and third periods although Morristown's "bend but don't break" play managed to keep the Rams off the board. Ramsey's best chance came deep in the third period when Morristown All-State goalie Shane Brown left a rebound from an Alex Whelan shot out in front of the net. Nick Botta, who was crashing the goal ripped a point blanker but was denied by Brown who made a great recovery. Morristown, who suffered their share of heartbreak by losing in the last two State Championship finals, won every game in the tournament by a single goal and beat top ranked Summit, Chatham and Ramsey along the way.

As for our Rams, congratulations to the players, families, coaching staff and Ramsey community for a magical and record-breaking season. Ramsey broke the State record for most wins in a single season with 28 and ended the season with an overall record of 28-3. Additionally, on the season the Rams scored 157 goals and only gave up 24 goals against which is tops in the State. Finally, best of luck to our graduating Seniors!

Finally, best of luck to our graduating Seniors! Three Frozen Fours and a State Championship final...it's been a great four years!
