Ingenuitive backyard rinks like the one pictured below has been one way of providing winter skating fun in Ramsey

Ramsey has been perennially recognized as one of the top hockey communities in the tri-state area. This year one media source noted the peculiarity of such a distinction given that Ramsey was one of the only communities on the list without an ice rink. The fact of the matter is that Ramsey has no winter recreational facility of any kind for the thousands of residents, particularly children, living in the community ... unless of course you count the "plow-mounds" by the High School. Many have suggested one potential location for such a recreational ice facility - the property located behind the town pool. The location seems perfect - screened from residential homes and plenty of parking. Additionally, such a facility would put the recreational area to use when the pool season is over. The benefits of such a winter recreational facility are boundless - a venue to support our youth and high school hockey programs, public skates, birthday parties, DARE events, school social functions, skating instruction and skills clinics ... you get the idea. Of course, there are many logistical issues that would need to be considered such as funding, zoning, operations, etc. But ideas need to get started somewhere. Numerous families are clamoring for such a facility in town and it's up to the community to organize and pursue this endeavor with the Borough. So get going! |
